There was something about this movie that caused an exhilarating buzz. Movie buffs did not seem to get enough and the raves were filling in non-stop. It isn’t just another Nollywood movie, the cast and crew basically created a new dimension as to how Nollywood movies are created. The creativity and flawless presentation completely and utterly shattered my expectations.
The sequence of scenes is artistically relayed. It starts with FLASHBACKS Guys!. FLASHBACKS !!!, now I don’t know about y’all but to me that can be a tart boring, I mean I am like get to the point already. Although this movie is of the “flashback genre”, it cured of my infamous “FLASHBACK MOVIE SYNDROME”.
Oh my Gosh!!!, this movie has all the stops, from its talented cast, picture quality, sound mixing and overall quality of production. The actors appeared poised for battle, throwing artistic intensity back and forth.
The storyline is evenly paced and perfectly timed, sparking emotions when it was called for. One of such questions that arose is an age-old question about the nature of rape; “Do we cry rape when there are no visible signs of force” (By the way this is totally a no-brainer for me, the answer is a big fat yes, well at least in most cases)got me really excited and spiked a debate even after the movie.
The 1hr 47mins movie was just perfect and believe me, time stood still. Almost 2hrs in the theatres and we just wanted it to go on and on. The movie kept everyone glued to their seats all through its seamless duration. Cinema-goers like yours truly practically gave those scenes extra life in the arena, live comments were made and debates were raised.
The producers evidently have good heads on their shoulders. They created a noteworthy reflection of how a simple office romance can go from Zero to Hundred in a minute. Turning a simple ” man and woman have an affair in the workplace” story into a thought-provoking blockbuster. Nollywood heavy-weights; O.C Ukeje, Adesuwa Etomi, Iretiola Doyle and many others were absolutely fabulous in this film.
TRIGGER ALERT (YES, I AM DISHING OUT SPOILERS)
It starts with a scene in an Arbitration room with an Arbitrator. So the defendant and the accused had their respective Lawyers lead their causes. Dara, played by Adesua Etomi, apparently had an affair with her boss , the CEO of Olarewaju limited Mr Gbenga played by O.C Ukeje. Now i will assume that everyone knows how this works right, these characters were bascially driven by basic animal lust, but the vibes from these two beings was so cofusing and it was so difficult for me to tell if both parties really loved themselves or were deep into coniniving and pretentious methods of playing each other. Sincerely they played it so well even at the end I couldn’t still tell, but the question for me was that if they truly loved themselves will they have done what they did to one other, well I personally don’t think so.
Actually, Dara helped Gbenga to take his company to the next level, she made the company so successful and she deserved 30% of the company when it was time to be given. Gbenga in a very human way wanted to play smart and deceive her of her share of the company. Apparently, Dara wanted more from the relationship but when she couldn’t get it, she had to frame Gbenga up that he raped her so she could indict him and get her percentage back. Sincerely they were so good and articulate with their roles. And can I talk about the flashbacks again, those were so cool like artsy cool. It was just thrilling to see that at the end the truth was finally revealed. They told us the final true story (what really transpired that faithful night). The issue here is that when the chips are down and the romance is over, a man or woman will do what they have to do to protect their own personal selfish interest ,so be warned.
This week I will be scoring this thrilling Nigerian movie an exceptional 9/10. Why, because I enjoyed every bit of it. The directors met my expectation with the beautiful, well scripted, articulated and thought after story line. I’m not a big fan of flash back movies, but this absolutely nailed it for me, and I won’t mind seeing it again and again. It also did left a lot of questions in the hearts of those of us at the cinema that evening, Questions like how to know if a man loves you? if they will ever leave their wives to marry you? Well, who knows? you have to be very careful before you enter any legal or illicit relationship. I recommend this lovely movie for you to see this weekend, absolutely amazing!
