The Photograph: Better Than Expected

The photograph was surprisingly interesting, one of those movies you are not sure what to expect, the poster barely gave away the theme of the movie  and the casts were also ‘tight liped’

but just like they say -when in doubt go with your instincts and I decided to follow my guts and watch it anyway.

For me it has become very easy to tell a very highly intellectual movie from one that isn’t, a simple fact check you won’t see up to 10 people in the hall especially in the Nigerian cinema, trust me if you are a fan of thought provoking movies; you would notice these things, especially for a foreign movie. Although, this may not work all the time, but 80% of the time it’s a really nice movie. Most Nigerians love either action movies 0r comedy, they really do not want to stress themselves thinking, anyway back to this movie, it was good and I enjoyed every bit of it till the very last scene, be patient , listen and you will get it.

The movie was directed by Stella Meghie and written by her also, a simple story about an hour 46mins long, a few well selected cast, the picture quality was spot on, the production was top-notch and one thing that got me thrilled  was the amazing storyline, I  enjoyed every bit of it, one of those movies that keep you glued till the very end and leaving you praying all through that the two main cast finally find love in one another, well I love romantic movies, even though not all the time, but when the story is well written and enacted I get very thrilled and excited, this didn’t really feel like one so much at the beginning but it was absolutely amazing and I lovely it. The background soundtrack, music and songs for each scenes well all on point, less I forget I loved the art display all through the movie, they made you feel like you were in the movie and one anyone could connect too.

Mae and Michael played the lead roles in this movie and the movie was  centered around them, Michael was a journalist who tried to recreate the story of a very famous photographer, who happened to have being Mae’s father, she never knew, it was a funny story that revealed how small this world really was. Mae grew up with her mother in the city who was a very a renowned photographer who left her village for the city for greener pastures, along the line she got so busy and distanced herself from her daughter. Her daughter Mae grew up to be a strong independent wealthy and classy lady, who along the line of Michael’s job met him, and instantly there was a strong connection between them, you will think they have known for ages. Mae was a simple sweet girl while Michael was a player who found it so hard to stay committed to one girl. You will need to watch the entire movie to see how they made it work at the end.
