Well I would say that I have become a secret fan and an admirer of Issa Rae, from Little (2019) to the one earlier this year if you were able to catch it just before the lock down, “The Photograph” the movie was amazing, try to see it too, I was happy and excited to see her again in the romantic love story and I thought they would totally kill it, but I don’t think so at all. The movie tried to tell the story of how 2 love birds met in school, fell in love with each other despite their complicated personalities, it felt like so much work living together, but then it was sweet at the very end.
To a peep into the story of ‘The Lovebirds’ – Issa Rae “Leilani” met Kumali Nanjiani “Jibran” as they were referred to in the movie in class, they had both fancied each other from a distance but didn’t want to disclose it one day Jibran approached her and before you would know it they started dating , I guess for them during the dating process they were so madly in love, that they really couldn’t see that they weren’t compatible and wanted totally different things from life, Leilani was very ambitious and goal driven, she wanted to work hard and earn more, on the other hand Jibran ( Kumali Nanjiani) was kind of laid back and wanted to take everything nice and slow.
One day as they drove out and in the heat of their usual heated arguments, they ran into a cyclist, who still got up and kept running, suddenly a fierce looking man runs into their car claiming he was a cop and drives off chasing the guy, when they finally got to a hidden corner, he ran into the guy again and ran over him till he killed him, with serious shock on all their faces, that was when it done on them he was a killer not a cop, but this was too late now as this was carried out with their car, suddenly people came around called 911 and they ran because they thought they were in deep trouble.
The entire movie was about them running around to see if they could unveil the truth and get themselves exonerated from the case, little did they know that the police had CCTV cameras on, which they had seen the entire scenario. You will need to watch the movie to see how they kept running from one house to another trying to investigate the case like FBI agents.

To my verdict I would score the movie 6/10, it was a well written, scripted and edited movie, I loved the costumes, cinematography and production, but for me there was just a loop hole in the story although they wanted to add comedy to the love story, it just didn’t go down very well, at some point it looked so unrealistic and over flogged, some of the scenes could have being skipped and some took so long a time, like they needed to fill the movie, I actually felt a bit of twist would have made it much better, but anyway this is just my verdict, feel free to let me know if you felt otherwise, for the romantic, comedy movie lovers, The Lovebirds might be your thing, do check it out.
